Nikki’s beautiful villa in St Kilda has seen many children enjoying the generous indoor and outdoor spaces over her eight years as an educator. She loves being with children, seeing them grow, learn, laugh and become good friends. Every day the children are kept busy with the huge variety of activities that she provides. Before the children arrive Nikki prepares a range of art, puzzles, and literacy activities so there are many options to occupy busy minds and busy hands.
A recent focus for Nikki’s programme has been the outdoors. Together with her children she has been growing some vegetables and herbs from seed to sprout to plant. The children love to be involved with this whole process – especially eating them when they have grown!
Nikki has strong relationships with some other local home-based educators and every morning she and two other educators along with all their children go out exploring the community. This often in involves adventuring on playgrounds or in parks, discovering museums, or trying something new at the Edgar Centre. The small group regularly utilises a local ‘hub’ community space to do cooking, painting and play time in their outdoor area.
